Today India's telecommunication network is the Second largest in the world based on the total number of telephone users (both fixed and mobile phone). It has the world's Third-largest Internet user-base with over 137 Million as of June 2012. Major sectors of the Indian telecommunication industry are telephony, internet and television broadcasting. And all this is possible in last 2 Decade, mostly 2003 to 2007. We see how increase our telecommunication and Internet Industries. but what is the Foundation of this Growth ?

It wasn't always like this. before 1995 telecommunication and internet is available only in Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai and Pune only. but Next 10 year 1996 to 2005 is grow from 0.10% to 4.50% and this is available in all cities in India.. This is a start of big E-Revolution

How did this happened ?

Answer :- this is possible because Indian Government of  Bharatiya Janata Party Led NDA Under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee take revolutionary steps to give boom to this sector. because of this people of India take various benefit of Information Technology in every sector. Outcome of this communication made easier and Cheaper in India.

Major initiatives taken By NDA :-

Many Major initiatives are taken that time like

1) Restructuring of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. who established with effect from 20th February 1997 by an Act of Parliament.

2) Establish New Telecom Policy, 1999

4) The Government done Corporatization of DoT on 1 October 2000. Department of Telecommunication Services (DTS) which was later named as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)

5) In April 2002, the government decided to cut its stake of 53% to 26% in Videsh Sanchar Nigam limited (VSNL) and to throw it open for sale to private enterprises. TATA finally took 25% stake in VSNL .

6) Open our market for Private sector in communication sector.

This initiative are master stroke of Indian Government of Bharatiya Janata Party Led NDA. This was a Gateway to many foreign investors to get entry into the Indian Telecom Markets. After March 2000, the Government became more liberal in making policies and issuing licences to private operators. The government further reduced licence fees for Cellular Service Providers and increased the allowable stake to 74% for Foreign Companies. Because of all these factors, the service fees finally reduced and the call costs were cut greatly enabling every common middle-class family in India to afford a cell phone. Nearly 32 million handsets were sold in India. The data reveals the real potential for growth of the Indian Telecom Market.

Many private operators, such as Reliance Communications, Tata Indicom, Vodafone,  Airtel, Idea etc., successfully entered the high potential Indian Telecom Market. some of the companies also provide the WLL Service. The mobile tariffs in India have also become lowest in the world. A new mobile connection can be activated with a monthly commitment of US$ 0.15 only. because of this initiative Mobile and advanced technology go to the hands of Common Man in lowest Rate in India.

Goal of this Initiatives :-

1) Further accelerating the revolution in telecom connectivity, which began in 1999, the number of telephones will be increased from 7 crore at present to more than 30 crore by 2009. This will ensure that, on average, every alternate Indian family will have a telephone.

2) No Indian village will be without telecom services after 2007. Rural teledensity will be increased more than five-fold in five years.

3) The number of Internet connections will be increased five-fold from 40 lakhs at present to 2 crore.

4) PCOs will be encouraged to become multi-purpose IT kiosks and serve as the e-interface between citizens and providers of services, including government services. These will create several lakh new employment opportunities.

5) Broadband communication can revolutionize all sectors of the Indian economy. It can also bring about a paradigm change in the content and delivery of education and entertainment. Therefore, a comprehensive policy will soon be formulated to promote affordable broadband connectivity. This will embrace all the land-line and wireless phone users, cable TV homes, and cinema halls. Promotion of state-of-the-art wireless technologies will be a key part of this policy.

6) India's economy, government and education will be IT-enabled at all levels. Implementation of a national E-Governance strategy will begin before August 15, 2004. E-Seva will be made the common platform for citizens to pay bills for electricity, telephone, water, etc., register property, procure and submit government forms, etc. We will drastically reduce the need for citizens to go to a government office for services which can rendered electronically.

7) IT in Indian languages, including in the area of content creation, will be given special thrust.

8) Postal services will be revamped, modernized, and IT-enabled to provide a range of commercial and governmental services to the people.

9) Every high school and every college in the country will be given access to a high-speed Internet connection with access to rich educational content in local languages.
